Arklow Coastcare Awards

Arklow Coastcare and its volunterers have been honoured with multiple awards for their coastal conservation work and received in June 2009 the Title of Best Coastcare Group in Ireland.

The Arklow Coastcare Team was up against more than hundred other coastcare groups to be awarded the prestigeous title. Due to its remarkarble effort the volunteers of the Arklow Coastcare group was presented their very first GREEN COAST AWARD, a symbol of excellence that aims to acknowledge, promote and protect the environment of rural beaches in Ireland.

In order to win a Green Coast Award the beaches in question also must have had excellent water quality for the previous year. It was with great surprise that we found the water at South Beach has been of high swimming quality, similar to European Standards for some time. We are grateful that the HSE had the foresight to test the water and suggest to us to apply for the Awards.
